Nothing leaves your device

The image is decoded in your browser. It is never uploaded, never stored, and never sent to a server — which matters, because QR codes routinely carry things you would not want to hand over, such as Wi-Fi passwords, ticket references or private links. There is no account and no upload step, so the picture stays yours.

The code gets rebuilt, not copied

brickcodes does not trace the pixels of your photo. It reads the payload out of the image and then re-encodes it cleanly from scratch, so camera noise, glare, skew and JPEG artefacts never reach the build. What you get is a mathematically perfect symbol centred on the baseplate, not a blurry copy of the original.

One consequence worth knowing: decoding an image loses the original error correction level, so brickcodes picks the most robust level that still fits a 32×32 baseplate. The rebuilt code is often more scannable than the one you fed it.

If the image will not read

Decoding fails when the code is too small, too soft, or too low in contrast. A tighter crop around the code usually fixes it, as does retaking the photo straight on rather than at an angle, in even light and without flash glare. Codes that are partly cut off or heavily obscured cannot be recovered — the missing data simply is not there.
